Scraper Duplicate Content Sites - Do they affect your search rankings?

In short no, the worse that could happen is that you get frustrated another website has stolen your work and repurposed it as their own. I currently have atleast 50 scraper websites with my content on them, be it abstracts of my blog posts or complete rip offs, however none of them have affected my rankings on Google (I don’t really care about Yahoo or MSN Live to tell the truth).

Website Delisted from Google - Wonder why hmm

Well, I’ve been shamelessly promoting my new educational websites in previous posts and everything was going fine until today. I had a quick health check on two of my international websites - Learning How Germany and Learning How Italy, and to my surprise both of them have been delisted from Google.

Shameless Self pimping on MyBlogLog (for SEO mainly)

Is it just me or is MyBlogLog becoming like a shameless self pimping / viral link building community where a bunch of internet marketers gather to generate as much link value to their MyBlogLog page as possible. Do not that your the link on MyBlogLog to your websites are followed hence all that juicey internal links you get within MyBlogLog flows straight to your website.

A good meta description can get you more traffic

Here is another quick SEO101 lesson on the usage of meta description tag for on page optimisations. I have mentioned that I would make a post on meta description in my previous post on useless meta keywords, so this is basically a follow up on that. Much like page titles, meta description actually plays a big part on SERPs and works as your marketing ad copy to your potential visitor. Read more »

Touch Graph - A way to find relationship between websites via URLs or Keywords

I just came across an incredible relationship mapping tool which determines website relationships via either Keywords or URLs as seen by Google. The tool itself is simple enough, programmed in Java and presented in a very neat looking web 2.0 type of structure. However, the information which it presents is incredibly insightful and very very useful. Read more »

Thinking up a topic for content generation via Keyword Research / Mining

We’ve all had problems, one way or another, when it comes to content generation. Be it for a blog or for a company website, or even for a client of yours. The Age says that Most search engine optimisation companies are ‘unethical’

I hardly ever read The age, however I was lucky enough to read Aaron Wall’s seo blog which pointed to an article regarding search engine optimisation firms with in Australia. It turns out that recently, a well known SEO firm Found Agency, was penalised by Google for ‘unethical’ methods for their ranking. The Age took up this opportunity to quote anonymous ‘reliable‘ sources to bad mouth the SEO community in Australia. Read more »

Stop wasting link authority on low quality pages

I have recently noticed that most of my tag pages are supplementary results on Google, which basically tells me either those pages just don’t have enough links for Google to trust them or they are just crap (or duplicate content). It has always been wrongly implied that the more pages you have, the better the chance of you getting found. To an extent its true, however if 80% to 90% of your pages are rubbish, then you can kiss your Google ranking goodbye. Read more »

Search engine optimisers face a never ending loop of studying SEO

If you are a fellow SEO, you will know and understand the pain we must go through day in day out. A continual cycle of keeping up with search engine optimisation news and never ending feeds of SEO blogs to read. There are days when I wake up and just can’t be bothered to visit the dozen or so SEO blog sites to keep myself updated, however I know that as an SEO, its part of my job to keep up to date with search related news. Strategies for launching a successful website subsection

I must apologise for the lack of Search engine optimisation related posts due to my increasing workload and my tired tired little eyes (yes I’m Chinese) after work. However, as promised I have written up a short post about generic ways on how to launch a subsection on an existing site. Learn how to successfully rank the new pages on Google with the following simple steps. Read more »

So much to write, so little time to write it

I have recently been overwhelmed with work (at work) as a fellow colleague had to go on a Microsoft .net 2.0 course for a week. It seems that I have been put in the position where I must take on about 60% of his work load, which means I can’t really finish my own work, nor can I blog about SEO topics until the end of the week. Google updates Page rank on 1st of May 2007

Well well, a Google Page rank update and almost all my websites are up to a PR3 or more. Pixel Square Production website is now officially a PR4 and my previously owned website LiveHouse.com.au is now PR5 (I haven’t really done anything to it for 6 months). Have a look at your websites, you’d be surprised at the change, that is of course assuming you have already done a lot of SEO work to it already.

Overall a good day for me..so far.

People actually search for Francis Lee

It came to me as a surprise, mainly because its a name of no relevance and no meaning, secondly because I am pretty much a no body. However, after I installed HitTail, a long tail search term analyser to help me target different terms, I realised that people actually do find my website via searching my name. Read more »

Page titles, the most important on page optimisation

It is undeniable that page titles are the most important on page optimisation as well as the easiest to implement. Unfortunately, a lot of webmasters tend to forget the existent of such a tag in their html, hence completely forgetting to alter it to something other than the dreaded default “Untitled”. Using style sheets to change H1 to P for SEO purposes

Ever had a client who uses inappropriate styling tags at inappropriate times? I’ll bet you have and I’m sure you’ve had a heck of a time trying to change a H1 / H2 / H3 tag to a <p> tag via CSS. I wonder all the time why people abuse the use of header tags throughout the page when they could’ve easily used a <span> or a <p> tag via style sheets. Read more »
